Lisa Clayton is the first British woman to sail non-stop around the world single-handedly and unaided.
She was educated at the Church of England School for Girls, Edgbaston and the University of Birmingham.
She set out in a 38 foot yacht, the Spirit of Birmingham, on 17 September 1994.
Clayton returned after 285 days at sea, having travelled 50,000 km and survived seven capsizes.
She recounted the adventure in a book "At the Mercy of the Sea".
