Martin Shaw was born in Birmingham, and grew up in Erdington
and Sutton Coldfield.
His first appeared on stage at the age of 3, and enjoyed
English literature and drama at Great Barr School Shaw. He attended the
London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Shaw is best known for his roles in the television series Judge John
Deed, Inspector George Gently, The Professionals and The Chief. He won
awards for his performance as Lord Goring in the Broadway production of
An Ideal Husband
He narrated audio books including Emily Brontė's Wuthering Heights,
Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Silmarillion and Swift's
Gulliver's Travels.
