Peaky Blinders were an urban youth gang based in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
During
this period inner-city Birmingham streets were full of overcrowded
slums and extreme poverty, fostering a criminal sub culture and
eruption of gang-driven violence.
Their distinctive clothing
style included peaked caps, cravats and bell-bottom trousers, and "a
line of brass buttons down the front.
The BBC produced a drama series called Peaky Blinders about the gang culture in post-First World War Birmingham. |
